It was our lucky day when we discovered Nick and his team building a house a few doors along from our site in the Pines at Matarangi…. and even better that they would be available to start on ours when that was completed.

Unfortunately the timing for the build could not have been more challenging – Covid had arrived in the country and they had to manage the project throughout various lockdowns.

However it didn’t seem to be an issue for Nick. Always calm, positive and so well organised – there were no holdups. The architecturally designed house was not straight forward – a lot of steel and glass. Thankfully Nick was able to secure and hold a lot of the materials required to complete the project on time and on budget.

We love the house and are so grateful to Nick, his excellent foreman, Matt and the entire team. We could not recommend them highly enough.

Nick & his team at Cove Construction recently built a new shed at our place. This was no ordinary shed! It is a large scale “Man Cave” to house some of our prized Vehicle collection and needed to be built to blend in with our house.

Nick built our beach house at Matarangi. We started in 2011 and then as planned added pieces to it over the ensuing years. The workmanship was first class, and completion to schedule and budget spot on. The thing that set Nick apart right from the start was clear communication. We’ve worked with Nick and team from Cove Construction for many years now. The level of detail and the standard that the Cove team hold themselves to is exceptional. You can be assured that the workmanship and build will be second to none.

We first contacted Nick to work with us on our new site at Matarangi after noticing a number of successfully completed Cove Construction projects in the area. From our first meeting Nick was straight forward to deal with and assisted with developing our sketch plans to building consent documentation with John Ottaway from Dataplan.

We signed the building contract with Nick during the Level 4 lockdown in 2020 and Nick and Jay got started as soon as the Coromandel dropped down to Level 3. The sub contractors were fantastic and are clearly very loyal to Cove Construction, which is a testimony to the way that Nick manages the projects. The progress on site was rapid and the finer details of the build were dealt with quickly and practically, nothing was ever a problem. This resulted in our project been completed on schedule in December 2020.

Last year we employed Nick Gill and the Cove team to build our house on the Waterways in Whitianga.

We have used Nick previously and are familiar and very comfortable with the way he works.

The house is a modest four bed four bath home with a large paved area and a canal front pool.

John Ottaway of Dataplan Waikato designed the house. 

Our objective was to create a property that was easy to maintain, was good for entertaining and had good indoor-outdoor flow.

The challenge was that we were travelling overseas during the principle part of the build. I intended to employ a project manager to look after the job while we were away. Nick talked me out of this, suggesting that projected managers created extra costs and delays.

The build started in May. The slab was poured as we departed for our 4-month overseas trip. The build had a contractual finish date of the 1st of April. Nick, however, said that he would have something that would be usable by Christmas. This, he suggested, would be a house that could be locked up with some bedrooms usable and the outdoor kitchen operating to some extent.

We also employed Nick’s wife Hollie and her company STyla Design to assist with interior design. This proved to be a godsend. Hollie provided swatch boards via Pinterest and Dropbox. As well as managing style, she also co-ordinated the various suppliers and contractors.

The house was completed on the 12 of December with the Code of Compliance coming through on the 31st of January.

I feel Nick and his team have done an incredible Job looking after all facets of the build, finishing well ahead of schedule and communicating with us while we travelled in Europe.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Nick, Hollie and their team to anyone considering a build in the Whitianga area.

We decided that it was time to build on our Pines section in Matarangi and we wanted to build a luxury beach home that sat well in the Pines environment, we are very particular about detail and wanted to achieve the wow factor. We approached Nick Gill in January 2017 and he was extremely receptive to what we were trying to achieve and very easy to deal with. We have been impressed with Nicks ability to come up with creative ideas to enhance our build. Nick was always available to discuss, provide solutions and we made a number of changes along the way which Nick included with ease.

All members of the building team are really easy to deal with and did a fantastic job on the detailing our home required, they kept us informed and asked questions along the way. The construction of some aspects involved some technically challenging work which was executed with perfection. We were impressed with the standard of workmanship his sub trades provided and the excellent relationship Nick has with these teams meant everything was completed on time.

We moved in as planned in November 2017 and really love our home. It has been a pleasure to deal with Nick and his team and we would certainly recommend and use them again.

Ann and myself thought that it was about time we thanked you for building our house, which we love.

 

We have now been living in our new home for five months and so far have found no faults to be fixed and rectified, this shows that the build was carried out with care and to a very high standard.

 

It is almost a year since we first met you on site and talked about the build, which was completed on time this we find amazing especially with all the little tweaks we made.

 

Ann and myself would have no hesitation in recommending you or providing any references and consider that we were very lucky in having someone who was so understanding and caring which made what is usually a stressful process so easy.

 

Your patience amazes me, the daily emails from Ann and also phone calls from us with the tweaks to the plans would have driven me mad, however you made our want’s and dreams happen, your understanding and guidance will always be appreciated by us.

 

We should also put on record how tidy you kept the site, this has made our landscaping so much easier compared to other newly built properties we have lived in.

 

We would also appreciate it if you would pass on our sincere thanks to all the guys that worked on the build, we have met some of them from our site visits, what a great bunch of lads you employ, very friendly and hard working, this must come from you, leadership is a skill, this you have in abundance and rubs off on you workforce and shows in the quality of the finish.

Renovating a house within a short timeframe can be challenging, add to that the home owner was based in the UK and the co-ordinator, bill payer, administrator and interior designer and NZ decision maker was based in Hamilton and had other full time commitments, this project was looking for problems.

Nick Gill and his team at Cove Construction were clear and informative with all suggestions, questions and answers; nothing was too much to ask. Decisions and changes were a team effort, ensuring both quality and clients expectations were delivered.

Telecommunication was outstanding, requiring only 4 site visits from Hamilton. Cove Constructions team where always available for co-ordination of product delivery etc and went beyond the scope of the job.

Cove’s communication with the local subcontractors was outstanding and ensured that we all knew what was expected from each other.
Their attention to detail delivered a product that exceeded all expectations, on a very tight timeframe and much to the owners delight.

We recently undertook a renovation project of our little piece of paradise in Whitianga. We wanted a builder who would understand the sentiment required for a build of this nature and treat the project as if it was their own home.

Nick from Cove Construction was able to marry the old house and the new addition so well that the result is a seamless transition, thus fulfilling our expectations.

He not only directed his building team well, but kept the associated trades integrated and up to date with the well planned construction schedule. Logistically the project was managed very well.

Any addition undertaken brings extra challenges and unforeseen problems. As soon as these arose we would discuss them and arrive at an amicably agreed solution so as to not interfere with the building progress.

Detailing was to play an important part in the overall concept required. Nick was very receptive to working along side us through the requests for specific detail and it has certainly made the difference.

After possession date which was 4 days before Christmas and after a well deserved break for him and his team, Nick continued to keep in touch to ensure that everything was in good working order and as we wanted it to be after living in the home for a couple of weeks. This was extremely comforting.

We have no hesitation in recommending Nick from Cove to any of our contacts. If we were to approach another project we would most certainly use Nick again.

We contracted Nick to build for us in Matarangi commencing in September 2011. We were immediately impressed by Nick’s professionalism and drive, and he continued to display this throughout our project. My wife and I have just completed our new home on the Whitianga Waterways.Nick Gill was the builder in charge of this project and we have nothing but praise for the job that he did for us. Nothing was ever an issue, if there were problems, we never heard about them they were just attended to by Nick. The quality of the workmanship cannot be faulted and Nicks input into changes in the design was invaluable. Dealing with sub contractors can be difficult at times but Nick handled them all with a firm hand and this resulted in finishing the project ahead of time.
